Set up a kiosk
Kiosks are digital display screens you manage remotely -- perfect for lobbies, reception areas, and shared spaces. This guide walks you through creating a kiosk and connecting it to a physical device.
Before you start
- You need site-admin access to the site where the kiosk will be installed.
- You need a display device (tablet, screen, or TV) that can open a web browser.
Create a new kiosk
- Open the Kiosks page from the Site Configuration menu under Digital Signage.
- Click the Add Kiosk button.
- Fill in the kiosk details: give it a name (for example, "Main Lobby Display"), add an optional description, and choose a space to link it to a location in your building.
- Select the display settings -- pick an aspect ratio (such as 16:9) and an orientation (landscape or portrait), you can also pick a custom resolution if required.
- Click the create button to save your new kiosk. It appears in the list with a "Not Activated" status -- the configuration is ready, but no device is connected yet.
Activate the kiosk on a device
- Click Activate on your new kiosk. A six-character activation code appears on screen with a countdown timer. The code expires after 15 minutes.
- Open the kiosk activation page on the physical device by browsing to https://smartcore.io A fullscreen prompt asks for the code.
- Enter the six-character code on the device. Once accepted, the screen switches to the display view.
- Check the kiosk list -- the status changes to Active and shows an online indicator, confirming the device is connected.
If the code expires before you use it, generate a new one -- the old code is automatically revoked. Only one activation code can be pending per kiosk at a time.
Disable or re-enable a kiosk
If you need to take a kiosk offline temporarily (for example, during a refurbishment), click Disable on the kiosk. The device immediately shows a "Kiosk Disabled" message and stops displaying content. When you are ready, click Enable to resume.
If you need to replace the physical device, generate a new activation code and activate the replacement. Your layout and widgets carry over automatically -- the kiosk is a configuration, not a device.
